Our History
Shumaker Industries is a true all-American success story. Roy Shumaker spent World War II welding in the Baltimore shipyards. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for his stepbrother building underground storage tanks. When a friend needed repairs on ready-mix concrete drums, Roy’s stepbrother wasn’t interested, so Roy took on the work in his spare time. After repairing several drums over a few years, Roy saw a potential market for this service. In January 1953, Roy and Jean Shumaker took a step of faith and moved to Northumberland, PA, founding Norry Welding Company. Specializing in rebuilding concrete mixer drums for the Mid-Atlantic region, Norry Welding was the first company to fabricate drums for all makes and models of mixers.
The product line soon expanded to include chutes, hoppers, water tanks, and other mixer parts. Roy retired in 1979, and his son Doug became president of Norry Welding. In 1989, Doug changed the company’s name to Shumaker Industries, reflecting the family’s ambition to grow the business. Over the years, the company began to diversify its offerings.
Today, Brett Shumaker, the third-generation owner, leads the company’s continued diversification and innovation efforts. We manufacture blades and liners for replacements on central mix drums and provide professional installation and repairs. One of our most innovative products is the completely automated Load and Go Ready Mix Truck Wash® system. With over 70 years in the industry, Shumaker Industries remains dedicated to providing top-quality products and services to our customers, standing out as the longest-operating company in the United States for fabricating quality replacement drums.
